This route ascends 500' at about 35 degrees from Slide Lake to the tundra plateau below the Saddle. Apparently an avalanche wiped out some of the trees, and the route is marked by the relative scarcity of trees. Downed wood could otherwise make this route very hard.
This route is reached as follows. At the end of the maintained trail where it reaches Slide Lake, cross the log jam across Slide Creek and follow a faint lakeside trail around the West side of Slide Lake. The trees end at the southern end of the lake. This route starts just before the trees end. The route can be identified from the East side of the lake.
